ITANAGAR, May 14: A meet on Save Ziro campaign was held at Ziro today to sensitize the people about the campaign.
Delivering the keynote address, Tage Taki, who launched the campaign three months ago, said Ziro is facing a crisis and unless timely action is taken, the beautiful place we see today could be a thing of the past.
He pointed out to the garbage menace which is threatening to slowly poison the place by releasing harmful leachates, he said. Unplanned developmental activities are destroying Ziro and may dry up the place, he pointed out.
Apatanis are known for their judicious management of water both for irrigation and drinking purposes.
This, he cautioned, is already getting disturbed due to unsustainable way of constructions in the vital watershed areas. The third threat he pointed out was commercialization of education and subsequent deterioration of quality. ITANAGAR, May 14: A coordination meeting of magistrates and Police officers was convened yesterday in the office of the Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex Mige Kamki to discuss in details regarding handling of law and order problem before, during and after the counting of votes on May 16.
Chairing the meeting, the DC asked all to render exemplary services with dedication and devotion to maintain peace and law and order in the Capital Complex. Terming Itanagar as the centre of gravity of all activities whereby handling of law and order has been a challenging task, he congratulated all the magistrates and police personnel in making the poll process a success.

Reunification ceremony of Topo clan held

DAPORIJO, May 14: Topo clan under the banner of Topo Welfare Society (TWS) of Upper Subansiri district has reunited with their parent tribe Tagin in a reunification ceremony held at Dumporijo ground on May 10 last.
After declaration of the reunification, TWS President Tayir Bulo described it as historic moment and recalled key founder members of Tagin Si Donyi festival from Topo clan. He said legendary social workers like Popak Bage from Hechi clan and many others from Dumporijo area including Tani Tator and Topo Hechi had contributed immensely for the Tagins and popularization of Si Donyi festival.
However, due to ‘external interference’ and undue political interference, a certain section of the society within the clan were made confused about their own inherited tribes for which they couldn’t declare themselves as Tagin tribe for many years, he said.

There was a time when timber was one of the prime sources of revenue for the state
government. High return of timber business gave rise to many crorepaties in places
where its operation was active. It is also said that this huge involvement of money

Taking a serious note of the fast disappearing forest cover, the honorable Supreme Court of India imposed a blanket ban on timber operation all over the country in the year 1992. Many people, however, fail to understand the fact that the honorable Supreme Court banned timber operation only in the places where there is no scientific management plan. This management plan is called a working plan/working scheme, prepared by the concerned forest officials of their respective Forest Circle/Divisions level. Forest Divisions without any working plan or working scheme, legally, cannot indulge in any timber operation. This means the consumers will have to buy timbers only from a registered saw mills or timber depot, and any timber operation by public or any individual concerned within the Division without a working plan/working scheme is illegal and liable to be seized/confiscated (including the vehicle used for carrying the illegal timber) by the forest officials when and where detected, including necessary legal action against the accused.
These rules and laws were made for a very novel purpose, to manage forest resource
in a scientific and sustainable manner without the threat of over-

“Ok I am ready to pay the royalty, issue me a permit”
“It is meant just for building my house”
“The legal depot/saw mills are just too far away, you should not expect me to incur extra money and effort to purchase it from there, do you?”
“I won’t buy it from the illegal sources, but give me a legal alternative source”
“It is for building bridge only, how can you forest officials stop people’s basic need?”
Legal or illegal, people will keep on doing it until and unless a legal source is not provided to the public for their local consumption, and on top of it, timber is just too vital a requirement to simply deny it. So to have a better control over the forest resource and environment, immediate formulation of management plans (working plan/scheme) is required for all the forest Divisions of the state. Besides, it will also generate good revenue for the state government. As far as the local consumption of forest produce is concerned, it will be appreciated by everybody to have a separate policy that will help both the authorities and the local people as long as the forest produce do not cross the district and state boundaries.
Otherwise, without the working plan/working scheme and absence of easily accessible legal source of timber, such illegality will continue as it is right now. Trees will be felled without environmental considerations, and consumers, no matter who he is or what he’s background is, which also includes the forest officials, will be forced to buy it from illegal source.

It is a very good initiative on the part of capital administration to convened meeting in order to chalk out the plan to tackle price rise in capital complex. The skyrocketing prices of commodities in capital have become matter of serious concern. The shopkeepers fixes price as per their own wishes. In some cases they raise the price exorbitantly. The harassed consumers despite puting their best to fight against such wrong practice, left with no choice end up paying the price demanded by shopkeepers.
As per news report DC Capital yesterday held meeting in his chamber in this regard. DC stressed that the prices of all seasonal commodities as well as fish, meat etc need to be regulated keeping in view the need of the public. He informed that district administration would soon notify and fix the prices of the commodities as well as fish and meat and added that after notification a monitoring committee would be formed to ensure that it is being enforced. This step will be welcomed by every citizens of capital. The monitoring committee should not only cover designated markets, they also need to visit colonies and check whether Kirana shops are indulging in overpricing of commodities. It is often noticed that shops operating from colonies and sectors are the one who indulges in rampant overpricing of products. The capital citizens have high expectation that finally administration will take serious steps to control price rise. Hope this initiative does not remain only as media publicity stunt and we will get chance to see real time action.

The BSNL mobile network service has crossed all the known limits in their service deliverance to their valued customers in West Siang district and particularly at district headquarters ‘Aalo’. The condition is that, if the power fails, the mobile network stands no chance and if even there is slight rainfall, the power goes off, less to talk of its pitiable network with 3G service once in the blue moon. The onset of monsoon brings mayhem for the mobile network.
The chain of problem keeps on frustrating until you end up giving your handset to
a solid concrete wall. If that is the condition of mobile network in and around
district’s headquarters then one can not dare to imagine its performance outside
Aalo like at Kamba, Kaying , Mechuka and so on. Nevertheless, this article is not
a complaint against BSNL because that would be useless as the company has a record
of remaining obtuse towards its customer’s cry. However, what is hard to digest and
raises eyebrow is that, why Aalo town is left to the mercy of BSNL till today? While
other private mobile network service provider companies have made their presence
in the adjoining districts. Then what happened at Aalo? For how many more years the
brutal monopoly of BSNL shall last here? The above are some questions to which the
